March On.

First up this month a trip to the Midlands to play Walsall. There seems to be a growing discontent among the Walsall fans about being safely mid-table and unable to push into play-off contention. They have home form of 5-7-5 scoring 24(the lowest in the top half of the table) and conceding 20(the joint highest in the top half of the table alongside MK Dons). They have only failed to score in 3 home games, 2 nil-nil draws and a 0-1 defeat to Yeovil.
Top scorers for them are Deeney(11); Steve Jones(9) & Byfield(8). Troy Deeney also has their most assists with 5. Our all time record at Walsall is pretty good, 11-10-11 with 47 goals for and 55 goals
against.
(Last season - won 2-1)

3 days later the longest away trip of the season to Carlsile on a Tuesday night. They have home form
of 7-3-6 scoring 24 and conceding 17. The fans are buzzing at the moment as they sort out their tickets
and travel for the JPT Final at Wembley at the end of the month. This could be having an adverse affect
on the team as they have lost 3 of their last 4 games including a 1-4 defeat at Hartlepool.
Their topscorers are dead-ball specialist Ian Harte(14); Anyinsah(11); Dobie(9) & Robson(7). Kavanagh(11); Robson(10) & Hurst(6) have the most assists. Our record at Carlisle is poor to say the least, 5-4-13 24 scored and 43 conceded(almost double the amount scored).
(Last season - lost 2-0)

Now the sold out home game against Charlton. They have away form of 7-7-3, scoring 25 and conceding 19. Those 3 defeats coming at Colchester, Bristol Rovers and Carlisle and their 7 away victorys coming at teams from 15th or below in the table. They have only failed to score in 2 of their 17 away and have scored in their last 11 away games.
Their topscorers are Burton(13); Bailey(12) & Wagstaff(5). With assists from Burton(10); Sam(8); Shelvey(5)& Basey(5).
Our record against them is fantastic, often called the most one sided derby in the world, at our place we are 17-10-4 scoring 50 and conceding only 25. If they are a big fish in a small pond then we must be the angler standing on the shore holding them and tickling their bellies while posing for a photograph.
(Last season - n/a)

Away to Leeds next, on the Monday night, on Sky Television. Leeds who were everybodys favourites to win the League looked like romping away with the title until Cup runs and high profile victorys affected their ability to focus on 3rd division football on muddy pitches without TV cameras and press fawning over them. They lost top spot to Norwich and are nervously looking behind them at 1 of the play-off teams catching them for 2nd spot. They have just signed Paul Dickov to help them push on in the last 2 months of the season.
At home they are 11-5-1 scoring 32 and conceding just 11(the joint lowest in the league with us). That 1
defeat being inflicted by Walsall just 3 weeks ago. They have kept 8 clean sheets from 17 at home and they haveonly failed to score in 1 game, a nil-nil draw with Charlton. They have scored in their last 11 home games.
Their topscorers are Beckford(24); Becchio(11); Snodgrass(9) & Bradley Johnson(7). With assists from Snodgrass(12) & Beckford(5).
Our record in the league at Elland Road is so-so, 2-1-6 scoring 9 and conceding 17, although that doesn't include our excellant draw there in the play-offs last season.
(Last season - lost 2-0)

We finish the month at home playing Stockport. They are bottom of the league a position almost guaranteed after administration and massive cuts to there budget from last season. Although they did sell their star striker Carl Baker and his sale has funded transfers to strengthen the team and they will be less pathetic than the team we beat 4-0 earlier in the season.
Away they are 3-4-10 scoring 12 and conceding 28. Those 3 victorys coming against Brighton, Tranmere & Exeter. They have failed to score in 9 of their 17 away games and have kept 5 clean sheets.
After the departure of Baker their topscorers are Thompson, Donnelly & Bignall with just 3 goals each. With most assists from Poole & Birdcutt of 3 each.
Our record against them at our place is good, 5-0-2 scoring 15 and conceding 9.
(Last season - won 1-0)

A good month for getting on with cementing a play-off place. A mix of easier games and real tests, which if we are able to win will show the other teams in this League just how good we really are.
