New Year, same season.

First up this month, and this year, we host the mongs from down the road - Crystal Palace. After being saved from oblivion last year they have struggled to do get anywhere near the middle of the table this season, and as the month starts they sit 2nd bottom of the table. They have away form of 1-2-9, winning at Norwich and drawing at Cardiff and Bristol City. Keeping just 1 clean sheet on the road while conceding 28 and scoring just 10.
Their topscorers are Vaughan(5), Danns(5) & Ambrose(4). Most assists from Zaha; Clyne & Danns with (3) each.
Our record against them at The Den is very good 20-10-10 scoring 68 & conceding 47.
(Last season - n/a)

Two days later a trip to Derby. They sit deceptivlely mid-table because most of their decent results have come against teams from the bottom of the league including home wins against the 4 lowest ranked teams. They have home form of 6-1-4. Adding wins against Watford and Portsmouth to the wins against the bottom 4, scoring 25 and conceding 13.
Their topscorer is, by a long way, Commons with (13). Most assists come from Paul Green(7) & Cywka(4).
Our league record away to them is very good, 6-4-6 scoring 21 and conceding 23.
(Last season - n/a)

A break from the league as Birmingham City come to ours for an FA Cup fixture, their first visit since the events that transpired in 2002. A good test for our squad as an established Premier League team visit providing of course they don't 'rest' the best of their players. They ain't doing too well at the moment though sitting just above the relegation zone with away form of 0-5-4 scoring 9 and conceding 15.
Their topscorers are Gardner(5) & Zigic(4).
Our form against them in cups (home & away) is very poor 0-3-3 scoring just 5 and conceding 11 goals over 1 FA cup tie, 3 League Cup games and 2 Play-Off legs.

Next up a visit from, as those who attended the League Cup game earlier this season will attest boring, boring Ipswich. Another team 'just above' the relegation zone, they have away form of 3-2-6 scoring 10 and conceding 15. Those 3 wins and a draw coming against 4 teams from the bottom 5. They won at Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Palace with the draw coming at Scunthorpe.
Their topscorers are Scotland(7), Norris(6) & Priskin(5). Their assists come from Edwards(5), Leadbitter(4) & Townsend(3).
Our form against them at our place over the years is good, 9-6-4 scoring 32 and conceding 23.
(Last season - n/a)

And now last months opponents Leicester City, this time at theirs. It's very 'midlandy' this month isn't it. As the month starts they sit just above Ipswich in the table with home form of 6-4-2 scoring 20 but conceding just 12. Losing those 2 home games to highfliers QPR and Reading while letting lowly Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Hull sneak away from the Walkers with a point.
Their topscorers are King(9), Gallagher(6) & Howard(5). Wellens(6), Howard(5) & King(4) have the most assists.
Our league form at Leicester is poor 2-4-9 scoring just 10 goals while letting in 31.
(Last season - n/a)

And then......maybe another FA Cup game???
Hold your horses, gotta win the first one yet.

Well very 'midlandy' month is this month and all quite winnable games as well. Transfer windows been opened let's see what deals get made by us and our rivals this January and the effect they have on the pitch.
